My Mom, The Most Incredible Caregiver There Ever Was or Will be.

Today struck a very real chord with me, when it came to Alzheimer’s rocking my world.
At the Memphis Walk To End Alzheimer’s,
the incredible Brittany Murray chaired the event and shared some of her story about her mom’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Her mother was diagnosed at 52, and has been battling Alzheimer’s disease for four years now.
I’ve followed Brittany and her incredibly resilient family on social media, and have always been so touched by how much they care for their mother and fight daily for a cure and consistently make sure she has the best quality of life and caregiving possible

yes, my mom IS the cutest

Today,
I saw my mother try not to cry while Brittany said that “no one should have to dress their mother on their own wedding day” — shedding light on what it’s like to be a child of someone with Alzheimer’s disease.
Brittany’s mother was at the walk, and when it started to rain during the promise garden ceremony, I watched my precious mother dart towards Brittany’s mom at the bottom of the stage with an umbrella, and kneel in the soaking wet mud and grass and hold the umbrella over Brittany's mom, to make sure that she would stay dry.

This is the incredible servants heart is something that I see in my mom every day.
She felt Brittany’s pain,
being a child of someone with Alzheimer’s and being her fathers primary caregiver during the time when he battled Alzheimer’s disease.
From my perspective, I felt Brittany’s pain and purpose as she spoke on being her mothers caregiver.
Brittany’s mom and my mom are right around the same age,
and my heart shattered for her as I realized how lucky I am to have a healthy mom unaffected by dementia, and what an incredible daughter Brittany is to be so much for her own mother.

The crown that sits on your head is a reminder that you are not the one that is to be adored for your sparkly accessories but a reminder that you are an ambassador and a servant leader for your community.
